Togliatti karateka fights for a ticket to the Olympics in Tokyo

Anna Chernysheva, a pupil of the Togliatti karate school "Record", is fighting for a ticket to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. A few days ago, a 19-year-old athlete won the Russian championship in the weight category up to 55 kg. The national champion is currently training in Paramonovo.

Her coach Alexander Yudin told how this difficult season went for her in many ways. “In March, Anna was at a training camp in Sochi, where she was preparing to participate in the European championship. Almost all the athletes who attended this training camp passed the national pre-Olympic selection and were supposed to go to Paris in May for the Olympic qualification tournament. However, due to the pandemic championships have been cancelled as well as subsequent competitions. Later it became known about the postponement of the Olympics in Tokyo. However, there was no time to give up. We trained individually, and we trained online. In June, when restrictions were lifted for members of national teams, Anna was able to start full training in the gym and on the street.”

At the end of June, Anna Chernysheva was awarded the title "Master of sports of international class"by the order of the Ministry of sports of the Russian Federation. The competition break was the longest in her sports career-almost seven months. According to the coach, the student did not lose her athletic form. On the contrary, the break was effectively used to work on shortcomings and develop promising schemes. The first start of the new season took place at the end of September at the all-Russian competition "eagle Cup". And in early October, Anna has acted in the championship of Russia on karate in Yekaterinburg. During this difficult period, the Togliatti group of companies provided «ATS» significant financial support for the Olympic hope of Togliatti.

Alexander Yudin said, “At the first start, the task was to work in a competitive environment, to feel the competitive atmosphere, - said Alexander Yudin. - Anya reached the final, where she led in a duel with a local athlete, but she managed to equalize the score, and the decision of the judges led to the victory of the opponent with a score of 3:2. This defeat played only a positive role, as it became an additional incentive to win the Russian championship. In the first fight, Anna met with the same Oryol opponent and took revenge on her, and then without any problems won clean victories in all the remaining fights and became the champion. This result was calculated, because the championship was the first stage of the new selection for the Olympic Games.”

Thus, the entire long and thorny path of selection for the Olympics for both Tolyatti and other leading karate players in Russia began with a clean slate. The next step is a repeat national qualification tournament, which will be held in January 2021, followed by a series of international starts, which will result in the formation of the Russian national team to participate in the European championship and the Olympic qualification tournament. According to Alexander Yudin, who is one of the coaches of the Russian national team, the best fighters should represent the country for this period, and in such a dynamic sport as karate, a lot can change in a year.

Anna Chernysheva, like other candidates for the national team, must pass five training camps from September to December. Two of them are already behind us. In addition, in early December, she will take part in the national youth championship in Ufa, where the selection for the European youth championship will be carried out. The coach and student set high goals - to achieve results, both at the adult and junior level, where Anna will perform for another two years. According to the mentor, the fact that the Olympic Games in Tokyo will be held in 2021 is undoubtedly a positive moment for his ward. An additional year of adaptation in a new age category will undoubtedly add to Anna's chances of achieving the main goal of her life – winning an Olympic medal!
