Domestic movie got the Golden Globe Award

The Andrei Zvyagintsev tape “Leviathan” received the “Golden Globe” in the category “Best Foreign Film”. Valery Grishko, the chief director of Samara Drama Theatre, acted the role of the priest in the movie.

Golden Globe Award is an award of foreign journalists accredited by Hollywood, the second most prestigious world film award after the “Oscar”. Alexander Rodnyanskiy, producer of “Leviathan”, recalls that in the history of the “Golden Globe” only one domestic film won this award – “War and Peace” by Sergei Bondarchuk in 1969.

At the “Golden Globe” 2015 a Richard Linklater film “Boyhood” got awards for the best picture and the best director. Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) became the best actor, Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”) is the best actress and the best TV series - “Fargo”.

“Leviathan” - a “biblical story of Job in the material of modern Russia”. In the center of the plot is Nicholas who lives in a small town near the Barents Sea, who with his father built a house and a workshop. The normal life of the hero collapses under the influence of fate - mayor of the city tries to confiscate all his property. Starring in the movie is performed by Alexei Serebryakov and Elena Lyadova.

The film has already gained reputation of an uncompromising gloomy statement about modern Russia (although the creators insist on universality of the story told in the film). “Leviathan” received a number of prestigious international awards: the award for best screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival, the Grand Prix of the Munich Film Festival and the main prize of the London Film Festival. The movie is also nominated for the “Oscar” and BAFTA.

In many countries "Leviathan" is already out in rent. Premiere in Russia is scheduled for February, 5, 2015. Russian viewers will not see the original version of the film because the profanity will be censored.
