Museum’s history began in 1998. It was a building of the Technical Museum of "AvtoVAZ" and the formation of the collection. Museum was opened on September 7, 2001. In 2010 it bore the name of its creator K.G.Sakharov–ex vice-president of "AvtoVAZ’s" technical development.

The museum has two large fields with a total area of 38 hectares. There is military, civilian, domestic technical equipment: planes, helicopters, cannons, tanks, locomotives, missiles, machine engineering and Signal Corps, underwater equipment. Today, the museum has more than 500 large and about 1,700 other exhibitions, which show the development of automotive, engineering, armored vehicles, aircraft, railway equipment, as well as missile and artillery and naval armaments. This is one of the largest technical museums in Russia under the open sky. Founders conceived that the Technical Museum has to become a special walking zone, something like a fleet. Machines are placed on a large well-tended field: separate planes, helicopters and armored vehicles. Between the sections there are benchesand paths.

The main task of the museum is to show the history of Soviet and Russian technical equipment "alive". After visiting the museum, you can feel the atmosphere of the past, see original objects of the war years history. Pupilsare often brought to the museum: history lessons are impressive.

The museum is proud of a real submarine B-307 Project 641B "SOM" (1980 release). In autumn 2003 on pontoons with two tugs the boat arrived from Kronstadt to Togliatti. During the transition the boat took eight drawbridges in St. Petersburg, and 22 gateways, 8 of which with a width of 17.7 meters. Boat pulled 9 military trucks BAT.

You can visit this museum by buying a ticket, cost of which doesn’t exceed 130 rubles.
